Have you lived, worked, worshipped, and/or hung out in Woodlawn? If so, we want to hear your story.
We’re in the story-collecting phase of our “Woodlawn Stories” project, for which we are recording at least 50 stories from Woodlawn residents, past and present.
Selected stories will be woven into a script for a series of spoken word performances by Woodlawn-area students and residents. To coincide with the story gathering and spoken word performance, DISCO will run a series of storytelling and writing skills workshops for students and community members.
Our goals are simple: 1) to reveal and bring together into one thread the many stories of Woodlawn, 2) to create an ongoing infrastructure for public storytelling in the Woodlawn community; and 3) to provide area students with more opportunities to write.
Are you part of the Woodlawn community, past or present? If so, we’d like to hear from you. Email us at woodlawn@desertislandsupplyco.com, call us at (205) 201-0826 or drop by and see us at one of the following story-gathering days:
